Tips, Hacks & Shortcuts In Microsoft Teams

  • To start a video meeting from a group chat, simply click the Video Call icon in the top right-hand corner of the group chat window. For an audio call, you can select the Audio Call icon instead.
  • A key difference between a Video Call and a Video Meetings is that you can enable live captions in the latter while recording, a feature you can access via the ellipsis icon “…”
  • When scheduling a meeting, you can add it to a specific channel (using the “Add Channel” field on the New meeting page), which will store the recording in that channel for later reference.
  • The search bar at the top of the Microsoft Teams window allows you to search for contacts, the content of your conversations, the titles of files, and more
  • You can use “/” to access a list of different types of information you can search or actions you can take, such as “/mentions” and “/whatsnew”, or “/available” to change your status, etc.
  • You can use “@” to search by specific people, as well as different topics, such as “@weather” or “@news”
  • You can also find files under the File tab on the left menu, showing you all files and where they are located
  • When composing a message, you can change the formatting using the rich text editor directly above the field, allowing you to change font, bold, italics, strikethrough, etc.
  • You can email an entire channel by clicking the ellipsis (“…”) next to any channel name, and selecting “Get email address”, which will generate an email address for the channel.
  • Under the ellipsis on the left-hand menu, you can access a vast number of apps that can be added to your organization’s Teams platform, from the “SecretaryBot” that helps you schedule meetings to integrations for Zoom and other third-party solutions
