If you own an iPhone, then you know as well as the next person that the learning never stops. It seems there’s always a new trick to learn. You can get to something faster with this button, see something in a different way with this feature, or take a picture better, quicker, or brighter if you just press your finger this way.
It’s pretty impressive. Good job Apple.
But we all know Apple is pretty impressive, right? They told the FBI to talk to the hand, and they did. They totally did.
But enough about that. Let’s get back to that shiny iPhone of yours. Here are a handful of tips and tricks that any iPhone user should know, use, and cherish.
Night Shift Mode
Before bed, many of us like to spend some time sifting through social media feeds and checking up on our villages, clans, and farms. But this can be bad on your eyes and make it more difficult for you to fall asleep. To fix this little issue, Apple developed Night Shift Mode which adjusts your screen to display warmer colors. All you have to do is swipe up on the home screen and tap the icon that looks like a moon on top of a sun. And don’t worry, Apple automatically shifts the colors back to normal when the sun rises. Wow.
Siri Reminders
Have you ever looked at something on the internet and thought, “I hope I remember to look at this later…” Well, now you don’t have to worry about that anymore, because Siri will remind you. When you’re looking at something – like a how-to video on how to make Cinnamon Rolls – press down the Home button. When Siri asks you what’s up, tell her to remind you about this tomorrow morning. You can even ask her to remind you to text someone later or to take the chicken out of the oven.
Wi-Fi Assist
This feature has taken quite a bit of flak over the last few months but that doesn’t make it any less useful. If you enable Wi-Fi Assist (which can be found in Settings under Cellular), your phone will automatically switch over to cellular coverage if you come into contact with a weak Wi-Fi signal. This will help you avoid slow and rather unpleasant internet connections. However, you do need to be careful with this feature because if you’re a serial downloader or YouTube enthusiast, Wi-Fi Assist can drastically eat up your data and lead to higher bills.
Back to “fill in the blank”
It can be incredibly frustrating when you follow a link, then follow another link, and then you can get back to where you started. Not that it takes very much effort or time to get back to your starting point; it’s just annoying. But, of course, Apple has a solution for this. When you follow a link somewhere – like if you clicked an article on your Facebook feed – to get back to your feed, all you have to do is tap the top left of your screen. You should see something that says, “Back to Facebook.” Once you click it, you’ll find yourself back to where you started. How wonderful is that?
